Ilga Leimanis was born in Montreal, Canada, from 1992 to 1995. She lived in Riga, where she supplemented her art studies by graduating from the Latvian Academy of Arts with prof. Indulis Zariņš monumental painting department. For many years, she has been living in London with her husband, documentary filmmaker Mark Saunders and son Teo, where she teaches drawing to architects and engineers, and is a guest lecturer at the prestigious College of Art and Design at London's University of the Arts.
Her solo exhibition ROOTED IN LIMBO opened at the Five Years Gallery in London on October 7. Five Years - 5 years, when in fact it dates back to the end of the last century, when an independent artists' association, Five Years, was set up in London to operate outside the rules of profit turnover and creative freedom. Five Years was founded by the artists themselves and in 2014 Ilga Leimanis was admitted to the association.
